Day 6: Embodied Movement

"Here in this body are the sacred rivers: here are the sun and moon as well as all the pilgrimage places...I have not encountered another temple as blissful as my own body."

Living in Industrialized culture has all but severed us from our relationship with our bodies. Our food, shelter, clothing, and comfort comes off the shelf rather than from our toil, sweat, and skill. The consequence is that feeling connected with our bodies has become optional. Many of us live from the neck up, and instead of relating to our bodies as highly tuned and sensitive instruments, we disregard them as simply a vehicle, or worse, a burden.

All of the practices in this course are designed to re-attune you with the multiple intelligences that live outside of the human thinking mind and today’s invitation is to explore your erotic wellness through full body movement. You are welcome to be guided by your own body’s wisdom as you place your attention on exploring sensation through movement. If you’d like your practice to be guided, we’ve included a short video to support your unfolding and your connection.

If you’d rather practice without guidance, we invite you to keep these things in mind:

  • Begin by tuning in with your breath and the aliveness in your body, the place where Eros is generated.

  • Awaken your 5 senses, one at a time

  • Use your inner listening to guide your body into organic movement

  • Keep your body in fluid motion, go slow

  • Play with full body movements and smaller, more subtle movements

  • Explore your range of motion and try moving while standing and also on the ground

  • Stay connected with your breath and allow sounds to come through

  • Try ‘melting your mask’ by scrunching and stretching your face while making vowel sounds.

  • Pause periodically, notice the information that’s being offered to you somatically

  • Use self-touch to connect with yourself lovingly

  • Bounce or shake to energize and sluff off anything that’s loosened up in the process

  • Take time to savor, at least 10 breaths
